Canada used blocking to beat Peru

TIJUANA, Baja California, June 3, 2008.- Canada used its best weapon to claim a 3-0 victory over Peru securing a second place in Pool B of the Women’s Pan American Cup. The score was 25-20, 25-12, 25-18.

 

The match was one-sided since the beginning with Canada establishing its strong blocking led by Sherline Holness, Tiffany Dodds and Nadine Alphonse.

 

Tammy Mahon led Canada with 17 points, Holness had 13 and Ashley Voth added 11. Patricia Soto was the best Peruvian with 8 tallies.

 

The Peruvians battled for moments thanks to the offense of Soto and Yesenia Uceda, but the game of Canada did not let them many opportunities.

 

The victory gave Canada a 4-1 record in the preliminary phase finishing second in Pool B and facing the third placed team of Pool A in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Meanwhile, Peru ended with a 2-3 mark and will play for the 6 to 12 positions.
